Abstract
The field of African studies is currently experiencing a phase of critical reassessment and growth. With Africa playing an increasingly significant role in global political, economic, and cultural discourses, it's crucial for academic inquiry to move past simplistic interpretations and static perspectives. Instead of viewing Africa as lacking heterogeneity or is passive region, the Journal aims to highlight Africa‘s agency, its diversity and the multiple ways its people and societies interact with both their historical contexts and broader global processes. The Department of African Studies since its inception has focussed on the interdisciplinary approach to understand Africa, similarly our editorial approach emphasizes the importance of interdisciplinary methodologies and historically grounded analysis. We recognize the value of critical analysis of its polity, economy, cultural practices, society, indigenous knowledges, and the lived experiences of local communities. We are committed to publishing original research that contributes to more plural and critical understandings of Africa‘s legacy, Africa‘s presents, and her future trajectories. The articles included in this journal have undertaken both empirical rigour and theoretical innovativeness. We are grateful to our contributors, reviewers, journal advisors and readers for their continuous dedication to academic excellence and meaningful discourse.
