Abstract
According to the Bhagvad Gita, knowledge, the object of knowledge and the person who has
the knowledge are the primary inducers of actions. The systems of knowledge in India are
diverse, and India derives its strength from this diversity. Hence, our theme for the current
issue of Vantage explores the various systems of knowledge that have shaped India as we
know it today, and as we further march as a nation towards self reliance. In the editorial, Gopi
D Tripathy questions the perception of ‘India’ as a singular idea. Her article emphasises the
heterogeneity and diversity of the systems of knowledge in India and the importance of both,
the textual Sanskritic as well as vernacular wisdom to comprehend India. The various articles
in the current issue of Vantage cutting across disciplines, collectively draw on resources
within to explore a myriad of issues around the world.
