Integrating Indigenous Values into Life Skills Education: A Social Work Perspectives

This article highlights the significance of integrating Indigenous values into life skills education within the field of social work. Through a comprehensive comprehension of distinct ideas, techniques, and cultural factors, social workers are able to enhance their ability to provide effective assistance for the holistic well-being and empowerment of individuals and communities. This study examines the pedagogy of life skills within the Poumai Naga communities, with a particular focus on its importance as an example of indigenous education or Indigenous-informed life skills training. This research aims to promote an inclusive and culturally sensitive approach to the practice of social work. This paper provides suggestions for incorporating a culturally specific viewpoint into life skills education, recognizing that indigenous communities possess unique cultural traditions and interact with persons and the environment in distinct ways. The article also discusses the difficulties associated with integration and underscores the importance of engaging in collaborative efforts with Indigenous people. The present study proposes that adopting a culturally tailored approach to teaching life skills can lead to tangible and empirically validated results
