Abstract

This study examines the fertility behaviour of lower working-class families in Aberdeen, focusing on the relationship between family size preferences, birth control practices, and social and economic circumstances. The findings suggest that cultural and situational factors, including lack of resources, education, social status, and insecurity, influence family-building behaviour. The study highlights that reducing family size requires not only accessible family planning services but also improvement in the broader economic and social conditions of families.
