AIMS AND SCOPE

The Journal of Library and Information Science (JLIS) is a peer-reviewed, single-blind-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal (since 2025), published by the Department of Library and Information Science, University of Delhi. Established in 1976, the journal provides a scholarly platform for the dissemination of original research, new ideas, theoretical perspectives, and professional developments in Library and Information Science. JLIS welcomes research that advances LIS theory, education, research, technology, and professional practice, including emerging areas such as digital libraries, information management, information retrieval, knowledge organization, scholarly communication, artificial intelligence, data analytics, and other technology-enabled information services. The journal aims to promote rigorous research and meaningful scholarly discussion concerning the development of libraries, information centres, information professionals, and the wider information society.

ARTICLE PROCESSING CHARGES AND FEE TRANSPARENCY

JLIS follows a transparent No Article Processing Charge (No-APC) policy. Authors are not required to pay any submission, processing, publication, or article processing fee for manuscripts submitted to or published in the journal. All publication-related costs are supported institutionally by the Department of Library and Information Science and Delhi University Publishing, University of Delhi. Editorial decisions are based solely on the scholarly quality, originality, relevance, and methodological rigour of submissions. They are not influenced by an author's ability or willingness to pay any publication fee. JLIS does not impose any hidden charges on authors.

PUBLISHING TIMELINE

JLIS is published biannually, with issues normally scheduled for June and December. The journal is committed to maintaining an efficient and transparent editorial process while ensuring adequate time for rigorous editorial assessment and peer review. Manuscripts undergo preliminary editorial screening before being considered for peer review. To facilitate the timely dissemination of accepted research, JLIS also provides an EarlyCite publication facility through which eligible accepted articles may be made available online ahead of their inclusion in a scheduled issue, subject to completion of the required editorial and production processes. The journal will periodically report its average editorial and publication timelines to promote transparency and help authors plan their scholarly communication.

ACCEPTANCE RATE AND EDITORIAL SELECTIVITY

JLIS follows a selective, peer-reviewed editorial process. All submissions are first evaluated by the editorial team for relevance to the journal's aims and scope, originality, scholarly quality, methodological soundness, and compliance with submission requirements. Manuscripts that meet the preliminary criteria are subjected to appropriate peer review before a final editorial decision is made. Acceptance is determined by the outcome of the editorial assessment and peer-review process and is not guaranteed by submission. The journal’s approximate acceptance rate is 65%. JLIS is committed to maintaining the integrity and selectivity of its review process and will disclose its annual acceptance rate, calculated as the ratio of manuscripts received to those accepted for publication, to provide greater transparency regarding editorial selectivity.

PUBLICATION ETHICS AND ETHICAL ALIGNMENT

JLIS is committed to maintaining high standards of publication ethics, academic integrity, transparency, and responsible scholarly communication. Authors are required to submit original work that has not been published previously and is not under consideration by another journal. Appropriate authorship, acknowledgment of contributions, disclosure of conflicts of interest, permissions for copyrighted material, and adherence to applicable research-ethics requirements are expected. Where research involves human participants or other ethically sensitive data, authors must comply with the relevant institutional and legal requirements and provide appropriate ethical approval or consent where applicable. The journal does not tolerate plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabrication, falsification, unethical authorship practices, manipulation of peer review, or other forms of research and publication misconduct. Where concerns regarding research or publication ethics arise, JLIS may investigate the matter and take appropriate corrective action, including rejection, correction, retraction, or other measures as warranted. JLIS is committed to aligning its editorial and publication practices with internationally recognized principles of responsible scholarly publishing, including the applicable UGC and University of Delhi guidelines and best practices in scholarly publishing. The current JLIS OJS does not explicitly state endorsement of or membership in COPE or other external research-ethics organizations. The journal will periodically review and update its ethical policies to address emerging issues in scholarly communication, including generative AI text policy, research integrity, data ethics, authorship, transparency, and responsible use of AI in manuscript preparation and research.
